Linux Clustering

My work includes developing an HPC cluster. It has been an interest for a long time, and I have worked on a few all-inclusive HPC appliances to help digest the problems at hand.

One uses SUSE Studio, one uses Debian Live. Both are available here:

Debian Live - 32bit Services and HPC node ISO. Live, with installer.

openSUSE 11.2 - 32bit Services, Head and HPC nodes ISOs. Live, with installer.

openSUSE 11.2 - 64bit Services, Head and HPC nodes ISOs. Live, with installer.

SUSE Studio

I am a Linux Professional. I have used each of the Major distributions in a production setting, and even some of the Minor ones, as well as the BSDs, and commercial UNIXes (AIX, HP/UX, Solaris).

I know what I expect from an Operating System. If a company can't get things like this straight, where is their focus?

When creating pre or post-installation scripts in the Kickstart configuration panel (https://rhn.redhat.com/rhn/kickstart/KickstartOverview.do), any script created that had shell script functions - as "function(){ foo }" loses the parens and braces.

If I paste a script with (){} characters, they are not shown in the script. If I add them within the script editing window, they do not persist through a save and re-edit.

Compare this experience using one of the core provisioning tools with SUSE Studio., and understand why I'm not Pro-Red Hat.

Electromagnetic Spectrum
Sunday, April 23, 2006, 05:50 PM - linux, art

(minerals' reflection of ultraviolet light on film)

The perception of individual colors, or colors at all depends on the receptor in question.

The eye is measurably sensitive to the band of the electromagnetic spectrum between 400-700nm.

The ear, eye, antennae, nose, snout, et cetera are all receivers.

With breadth of scope of reception comes greater awareness of an organism's surroundings.

The bigger the dish, the more channels you can get.

Nutrition Data

In addition to the recommended daily intake, which will give a breakdown of calories needed for an individual, this site offers body mass index, and a nutrient intake guideline based on the "
Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) established by the Food and Nutrition Board, Institute of Medicine (IOM)"

There are other nifty tools..

Nutritional Summaries for many foods (raw banana, Pizza Hut's "The Big New Yorker™, Pork", canned refried beans)

The Lymphatic System
Tuesday, April 11, 2006, 02:42 PM -
The lymphatic system is the connection between your individual cells and the circulo/respiratory systems.

Veins and arteries are flowing to the heart and lung like the Amazon, Ganges, or Yangtze rivers begin and end at mountain peaks, glaciers, and mighty oceans and deltas. The capillaries are the creeks, streams, and rivulets, which would make lymphatic fluid and plasma analagous to fjords, puddles, aquifers, marshes and other transitional bodies of water.

Like logjams, beaver lodges, and collected flotsam & jetsam wash down creeks and rivers, cellular waste and byproducts of growth, healing, and aging are flushed out of tissues with lymphatic fluid s.
During strenuous physical activity, the rate of glycosis is stepped up, and the need for waste removal intensifies.

Some of the "refreshing" quality of Yoga and other exercise comes from having thoroughly flushed the muscle and other lymph-serviced cells of wastes, and rebuilding with fresh oxygen and materials from on-the-spot metabolism.

The Ujjayi breath works very effectively in bringing in air in ideal quantities and "fanning the flames" of the cellular respiratory process. It also ensures that postures which affect the abdomen work upon internal organs such as the stomach and spleen, as well as muscles.

The intensified awareness and overall increase in physical strength in the abdominal area is commonly referred to strenghthening the "core".

Energies and breath (the fire of 'agni') are "driven up" from the anus, or in Western terms, your appetite and excitement level are heightened, with your abdominal muscles aglow with blood and lymph flow.

Finding "muscles you never knew you had" usually accompanies this.

Breatharianism
Sunday, April 9, 2006, 06:18 PM -
Breatharianism:

Jack Davis says: "...Some of the practical advantages one may experience by not eating physical food include: 1. Excellent health and extended lifespan [Lab rats have lived 2 to 3 times normal rates on minimum caloric intake]. 2. Large savings of time and money. 3. No need for kitchen, stove, refrigerator, fuel, utensils, toilet, etc. 4. Less of no need of medicines, drugs, doctors, hospitals, insurance, etc. 5. Clear mind, pure body, and emotional peace. 6. Less trash generated - bottles, cans, etc. 7. Few, if any, rats, roaches, and ants in house. 8. Spirit sours and latent powers awaken. Potential disadvantages might include: 1. Breaking traditions, social mores, and habits. 2. Alienation of family, friends, and coworkers. 3. Lack of ongoing food experiences on which so much social conversation revolves. 4. Lack of emotional satisfaction based on taste, smell, and eating out scenarios. 5. More time for potential boredom. 6. One less substitute activity for avoiding resolution of emotional disharmony..."

Wiley Brooks says: "I'm not against eating… I'm not against MacDonald hamburgers… I'm not against the establishment… I'm not against anything… and… I'm not looking for any followers."

Hira Ratan Manek (HRM) says: "Sun energy is the source that powers the brain, which can enter and leave the human body or the brain only through one organ that is the human eye. Eyes are the Sun Energy’s entry door to the human brain. They are also known as the windows of the soul. Recent research has found out that the eye has many functions other than vision. And more information is continuing to be revealed about the functions of the eye. The eyes are complex organs and they have 5 billion parts much more than a spacecraft that has about 6-7 million parts. By this, you can see the immense capacity of the human eye."

Yoga? Yoga! Yoga...
Saturday, April 8, 2006, 09:52 PM -

Yoga: For a lot of people, it's sadistic contortionism. It's much, much more. It's not any one thing, there is no "best" at play, and it doesn't even have to be "exercise".

"Yoga" encompasses:
----------
Ananda
Asanas
Ashtanga
Bikram
Flow
Hatha
Iyengar
Jnana
Karma
Kriya
Kundalini
Laya
Mantra
Om
Raja
Restorative
----------

Most "Yoga" concepts have things in common: Patanjali, Asanas, Breath, and making the body and mind more than they are right now.

I'm no authority...
